Here is a view of the Dry Falls in Washington state:
Dry Falls, Wa was created from an extensive volcanic lava formation deposited in the area approximately 17 to 13 million years ago. The area was subjected to enormous flooding at the end of the last ice age when cataclysmic flows of water were released from lakes formed by the receding ice sheets. The flow of water over these ancient falls is thought to have flowed at a rate 10 times the combined flow of all the rivers of the world over a very short period of time. The local geology has been left with these ancient scars which are visible to this day.
While the plains of Washington state may currently seem gentle, boring, open, rolling farmland; I find it fascinating to see the variety of geologic forces which have shaped our little corner of the world so wonderfully displayed.
